Due to Anthony Weiner’s political status, his sexting crimes
received a lot of attention. What else could have caused his crimes to become
so popular with the public? It seems as though his dishonesty sparked more
interest in the story then the actions themselves. The way at Weiner lied about
what had happened caused an uproar to the public. The most interesting part
about what happened to me is that the general public all became fact checkers
on the issue. When Weiner denied the claims the public seemed to rise up and
prove what had really taken place. Why does this happen? I believe that people
like holding people in positons of power accountable for their actions. Once
the public was out for the scent, Weiner’s fibs did not stand a chance to
remain hidden. And as we can see Weiner was found guilty. This
article from CNN shows the sentence that was given to Anthony. Weiner’s
dishonesty put an abrupt haul to his career.
Could Anthony Weiner’s sentence have been avoided? Could it have been lessened? I think it very well could have been. It is common knowledge that hiding something will typically worsen a given situation. However, if Weiner had been upfront at the very beginning, the impact on his career could have been far less. After the initial information was hidden, Weiner had a harder time running for mayor because the public was already suspicious.
The general public, and especially people in positions of
power need to be prepared to tell the truth about their actions. By being
upfront and honest people can save themselves from more trouble later on.
Could there have been more wrong with Weiner than just his
dishonesty? Check
out this article to see psychologists question what could have been wrong with
Anthony.
I definitely agree when you say that this could have been avoided, all you have to do is tell the truth and the implications will usually never be as bad as they could be. I think that article you linked to about the psychologist was super intersting too, I like how you did some extra digging on that. Great job!
